China Uses Facial Recognition To Track Students Who Sleep In Class
In a perfect nightmare scenario for anyone who remembers being a less than perfect student in school, China is now experimenting with using the "Smart Eye" facial recognition technology to track student's faces every 30 seconds and alert teachers immediately if a student appears distracted. Predictably, the technology has created plenty of backlash, particularly among humans who realize that students are not like machines. Sadly, the students in this school now feel an even more overwhelming pressure to perform perfectly and learn like a robot. As the article rightly points out, this is likely to not only to hurt China in the long run - but also make those same students less competitive because they struggle too hard to become something no human can.
How Blockchain Smart Contracts Might Destroy The Legal Industry
The legal industry is one where entry level workers are expected to work their way up and earn experience that eventually will translate into seniority. What if technology started to replace much of this entry level work? This is the interesting question raised in this article, which focuses on how blockchain and smart contracts are removing some of the processing work and backoffice processing that was typically required to be done by junior associates who would be billed out per hour for exorbitant hours to corporate clients. The shift will likely take another decade or more, but is already causing some legal firms to rethink their structure and how they charge for services.
